Animal fats are composed of more saturated fats and vegetable fats are composed of primarily unsaturated fats.

Trans Fat:
Raises LDL-C/lower HDL-C

When vegetable oil is changed from a liquid, at room temperature, to a solid at room temperature, trans fats are created. This process is called hydrogenation. This process preserves the shelf life of a food and changes the product’s textures.

On the label, fats will be identified as hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated. Check the food label to see if there are trans fats in the product. If so, avoid the food and choose another food that is similar without trans fats.
